Reports by TalkSport this morning are claiming that Chelsea have now turned their attentions to Everton hitman, Romelu Lukaku after failing with several bids for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, despite tabling a massive £62 million that got knocked back.
Despite already having Diego Costa and new £33 million signing Michy Batshuayi as attacking options, newly appointed manager, Antonio Conte is said to be interested in further enhancing his firepower this summer.
The Blues’ originally sold Belgian forward Lukaku to Everton for £28 million in 2014 after he had enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Goodison Park the season before. Since then, the 23 year old has scored 61 goals in 127 appearances for Everton and is regarded by many as one of the finest young strikers in the game.
The move makes sense, he’s a proven Premier League goalscorer, having spent time on loan at West Brom too, where he also impressed, and will no doubt hit the net on a regular basis. His price tag is believed to be in the range of £40-65 million and although that may seem like a hefty fee, it may end up being a decent one, as recent transfers, such as Mane’s £34 million move to Liverpool, have shown that money is being thrown at clubs in order to lure their big stars away from them.
Should Conte sign Lukaku then Chelsea would have a formidable strike force indeed and would look like a club to look out for during the 2016/17 season as they look to get back to where they belong, following their disappointing season last year.
